Skerries for Schools

An introduction...

Skerries for Schools is a charitable organisation with the express purpose of giving young people access to the river and experience the fun of traditional fixed-seat rowing.

Established in 2014 by local resident and keen rower, Bamber Gascoigne, after he recognised there were very limited pathways for the next generation of river users to get involved and enjoy traditional rowing. Bamber saw the growth in confidence and skills of other river users and knew the activity gave broader life skills to its participants.

S4S works with schools to provide a unique opportunity for their students to try rowing with our experienced coaches - either as one-off sessions or a more structured series of linked sessions leading to a 'learn to row' certificate. We welcome young people from all backgrounds, particularly those from disadvantaged or challenging environments, and those deemed to be "non sporting" or "uncompetitive".

We have bases at Richmond and Reading.
